What happens to the male if the prostate is removed from him?
Total prostatectomy is a surgical procedure that men undergo as a result of prostate cancer. Of course, men are exposed to some complications as a result of undergoing prostatectomy.
Causes of total prostatectomy
The reasons for total prostatectomy surgery are due to prostate cancer, which often requires surgical intervention to break up the prostate gland with a cancerous tumor and completely eradicate it.
Expected complications after total prostatectomy
The most important expected complications of total prostatectomy, most of which are temporary and for short periods after prostatectomy, the most important of which are:
- Temporary urinary incontinence.
- Slight impairment of sexual ability, which can improve after a period of prostatectomy.
- Relatively narrow urethra.
- Sometimes, and in a few cases, “temporary incontinence” occurs in stool as a result of the nature of the surgery and the technique used.
After the surgery, the sexual process can take place naturally, but it is not accompanied by ejaculation of semen, which constitutes a psychological crisis for the man, and may lead him to refuse sexual relations as a result of his disapproval of that matter.
