birth control pills

Birth control pills contain either estrogen and progesterone or only progesterone, and often here in this question, contraceptives that contain estrogen and progesterone are intended.

In any case, both formulations are female hormones. Estrogen is responsible for the emergence of secondary female characteristics such as the appearance of breasts and is responsible for the first phase of the menstrual cycle, and progesterone is responsible for the second phase of the menstrual cycle, which prepares the female uterus for pregnancy.

In contraceptives, the dose of these drugs is high, which causes the cessation of ovulation and prevents pregnancy.

In males, since these drugs contain female hormones, they will cause gynecomastia (enlargement of the breasts) and may affect the level of the pituitary gland and lead to the cessation of secretion of hormones that develop in the testicles and thus may affect the formation of sperm.

Also, female hormones are prescribed to men in rare medical cases such as prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Oral contraceptives are not intended for use by men.

The side effects have not been well studied so far, but they may cause several negative effects in men similar to the effects of hormones, so we do not recommend taking them except for medical cases.
